I found out about the terrorist attacks in Mumbai earlier today from my sister-in-law. We made some phone calls to make sure everyone we know there was safe.
I got some sketchy information, and was trying to gather more bits. I tried a few different news channels, went to Yahoo! India, as well as tried Google Search. Most of these sites (& services) did not provide me the information and the details I was looking for.
Then I did Twitter search for Mumbai. Folks were putting up very useful links ( like pointing to ndtv live feed, cnn live feed, etc. ). Very quickly I was learning a whole lot more of what was going on in Mumbai. Thats when I found out that the situation was still developing, and was by no means over.
I won't dwell in this post about the dastardly nature of these attacks, but would like to commend Twitter on building a very useful service.

8 TeraBytes in 30 days
Hi,
Just wanted to provide a quick update, we are now serving 120+ million widgets a month. As more wowzio widgets get installed, and as we serve more widgets, we are using up an increasing amount of bandwidth every week. In the past month, we went over our bandwidth limit ( of 8 TeraBytes ), and our ISP ( SliceHost ) graciously gave us complimentary bandwidth. Since then we have added more servers, and now have a higher bandwidth cap.
We continue to build out our backend systems by :
1. making our systems and processes more efficient.
2. and adding hardware as needed.
We also continue to make sure that our systems always stay highly responsive,
and that Wowzio widgets get loaded and rendered inside the browser very fast. To obtain an update on our systems, pl. see http://status.wowzio.com .

Wowzio Pro launched
Earlier this week, we rolled out a premium version of our widgets,
called "Wowzio Pro", which includes features that have generally been asked for by our subset of business users.
These features are :
1. The ability to customize the signature at the bottom of the
widgets, including the option to take it off completely.
2. Priority processing of feeds, so new posts are picked up quickly.
3. Customer support
Premium widgets will cost a very low monthly subscription fee (starting at $5), based on your traffic. It is to help defray some of our serving and support costs. To find out more about "Wowzio Pro', please drop us a line at pro at wowzio dot com.
Wowzio widgets will continue to be free to personal bloggers. We have
been experiencing a steady growth in our installed base, and have been continously scaling our services to meet your needs. This month, we will serve north of a 100 million widgets.
I would like to thank all the folks who have been sending us useful feedback.
